Okay........I'm tired of talking about froggies! LOL! I wanna talk about something else....You know through out my day i think of subjects to talk about on my blog but by the time i sit down at the computer those great thoughts have fled my brain. But yesterday i thought of something to write about and i took a few min to jot down my thoughts. I can't even remember if i've talked about this before or not.....If i have bear with me......
Recycling...........Recycling is a passion i took up in earnest about the same time i began my current weight loss journey . So....a year and a half and still going strong on both counts. :) I should have looked how the planets and stars were aligned. Apparently it was a good time to start something. :)
I just finished getting my recycling organized, about 2 months worth. By far i recycle plastic the most. Our recycling center takes #1 and #2 plastic, I try to recycle the plastic lids since they don't take most of them. I use them as paint palettes for my artwork. The little lids off of milk and water jugs i make magnets out of them for my frig. We have a friend 'down on his luck' who takes our aluminum cans and turns them in for $. We take the tabs off the soda cans and give them to my hubbys coworker who donates them to a charity for kids.
I also recycle newspaper, veggie and soup cans, any glass that has had food in it. Saving the earth single handedly has always been a passion of mine along with animal conservation etc......passions that i'm not sure why but i layed aside while raising my daughter. I wish now that i hadn't done that, because i could have instilled that in her. Although i guess some of it must have rubbed off as she is a vegetarian because of the cruelty she has seen to the animals that feed us.
I'm just finally taking the extra time and effort to do this. And trust me sometimes its a pain in the a _ _ ! Even my hubby is getting the hang of it. He says he thinks twice now before throwing anything away:) He doesn't like the way we have to wash or rinse out our trash. But thats just part of it. Other wise it would stink and attract vermin.
I'd like to take it to the next level and stop buying products that require recycling. Not buying it in the first place seems logical. And i'd like to buy more products made out of recycled material but they tend to be more expensive. Until that changes i don't see it happening. Recycling is a pain. But it does get easier with time. It becomes a habit. Kind of like how a new eating and exercise lifestyle gets easier. All the hard work pays off when i get on the scale or put on clothes and like what i see in the mirror. And when i stand back and look at everything i'm NOT sending to the dump! Jinx!

Good for you Jinx! I wish more people would recycle. It became just a normal part of my life after living in NYC for 5 years. It is the law there and the city will actually dig through your garbage and give you tickets if you don't do it properly! You have to have 3 garbage cans in your house all the time to keep it up, but it became second nature to me and I wish more cities would begin requiring it. It's so important for our planet that we do every little thing we can!
In our town we have curb side recycling. That makes it very handy, and easy to recycle. Our recycle bin is always full, while the trash bin is rarely even half full. But I pass houses where the opposite is true because they have multiple trash bins or it's hanging out over the top. BTW, did you see that one Oprah show where they talked about how much of an impact it would make to just cut down the number of paper napkins we use? It was amazing. I wish I could remember the amount. Anyway, since then we do still use paper napkins but we use them many times over. They might get looking kind of bad but I just can't get myself to pitch them without making sure I got all the use out of them.
HI Deb, I haven't checked in in a long time. I think there was definitely a link between the weight loss and the recycling. There have been studies on the psychological benefit of decluttering, and the recycling seems similar to that. I know I should make more of an effort on that front...all the cardboard I throw away alone. I read the post before that last one too...I hope your rash gets better. Prednisone (if you are taking that) absolutely causes water retention...big time! So keep that in mind when you weigh yourself. I'm glad your hitting the treadmill despite the heat...take care. :0)
156.8 at least I'm steady . . . Also, 106 degrees? Not THAT is just wrong!
Hey, I'm not anonymous, that was me!
Ok, not as good as I wanted but at least I broke into the 140's! I was exactly 149.9 this morning!
I neglected to say that's down 1.1 pounds. (Sorry!)
status quo...
My hubby is the Greenpeace freak in our house. Funny 'cause I am the food and chemicals Nazi, and he is the environment and animal saver! Together we will save each other and the world! haha! It does get easier. You just have to stop whining, and just do it. (the whining is referring to me, not you! haha!)
